Malika B Coston

Malika Coston is an accomplished horsewoman who began riding at an early age.  Raised in a ranch setting in western Montana, western-type equitation was her earliest influence.  Breezing thoroughbreds, reining, roping, and chasing barrels, and endurance riding, allowed her to find her balance in the saddle.  In her early 20’s, Malika began pursuing exposure to saddle seat equitation, and hunter/jumper disciplines.  The basic fundamentals of dressage are core to Malika’s practice.   Her experiences and training have provided her with a solid foundation in horsemanship and the ability to convey knowledge and skills to students of all ages and abilities.  Her students have qualified for regional and national level competition.

Family roots in equestrian activities run deep in Malika’s heritage.  Malika’s mother, an artist and dance teacher, was raised on a working ranch in Argentina. Her father grew up in Connecticut, where it was a family affair participating in fox hunting, point to point, polo and hunter/ jumpers. Her parents settled in the Bitterroot Valley in the early 1970’s and maintained their mutual interest in horses until their passing.  This background and environment exposed Malika to horse shows and competition. Today she continues to learn from top horse trainers and riding instructors.

Since establishing her business in 1990, she has created a successful teaching program for riders of all ages and levels of experience.  Solid fundamentals of horsemanship and an understanding of horse psychology are the key elements of her practice.  Her teachings result in solid performances in the arena as well as harmonious relationships between horse and rider on the trails in Montana.  Her facility at the foot of the Bitterroot Mountains provides a unique, comfortable environment for learning and experiencing the wonderful world of horses and horsemanship.
